Spinal stenosis is narrowing of the spinal canal or nerve openings, usually from arthritis and thickened ligaments. It causes leg heaviness, cramping or numbness when walking or standing that eases when you sit or lean forward. Injections and conditioning help many patients delay or avoid surgery.
